Gabrielle McGhee

Santa Fe, NM

Gabrielle began her relationship with Nia Technique open, willing and curious in 2009. By summer of 2010 she was hooked. “I had no idea what I was embarking on...I just knew my body felt better each time I attended class...and it still does.” She lives in a Type 1 Diabetic body. Since age 14 she has endured the roller coaster of metabolic imbalance defined by that condition. In late 2021 her body’s kidneys resigned from their job, leaving her no choice but to begin dialysis treatments three times weekly. Through all the disturbances in her physical body, her Nia practice has remained a constant pillar of rejuvenation, enlightenment and sensory pleasure. “When I hit the mat, all concepts of ‘disability’ disappear. The skill I have developed through dedicated participation spanning thirteen years shines brightly above any imbalances I may otherwise be sensing.”

Gabrielle believes the support of the Nia community stands as an unspoken scaffold built by music, space and choreography, but the Freedom in the Form is what keeps us unified. “I wish for every student in my class to reach their highest potential in the moment, the now, by honoring their freedom within the form I present. The sense of empowerment choice creates is far more resonant to the body than alignment with anyone else. And provides the most lasting lessons. That offering is what differentiates Nia as a healing practice.”

Gabrielle is a licensed 1st Degree Black Belt Nia Instructor. She has completed Nia FreeDance, Nia 5 Stages, Nia FloorPlay, MoveIT and Nia Moving To Heal trainings. Choreographic Muse is her favorite descriptor despite its unofficial reckoning.

She is honored to be holding space for Sarah as a substitute for in person classes in Santa Fe.
